Ideas!?

Susan Fredrickson and I thought about doing this blog since we like to swap ideas for activity days and we'd both love to hear what other groups in Rochester are doing, too.  Feel free to post whatever is going on in your group or ideas or questions...  or whatever!  If posting on a blog is unfamiliar to you and you'd rather use a different format, we might be able to do that.  Or you could email your post to me (stephasavage@gmail.com) and I'll put it up.

This seems like the perfect place to mention that I was just handed over 3 boxes worth of craft supplies for activity days and I don't know what to do with it all!  I would like to use some of it once, and then hand it over to a different group because we just can't use most of this more than once without it getting old, and I really don't want to store it all and then pass it on to the next leader!  So sometime soon I'll post what kind of supplies I have and try to get it to a different group.

Alright, I'm looking forward to hearing from others!  Thanks!

  1. The 1st ward activity day girls participated in a safety night.
We watched age appropriate videos dealing with internet safety and cyber bullying. We also watched a video clip of a 7 year old girl escaping a kidnapping attempt in Wal-Mart and discussed what she did right. One of the young women in our ward who is fantastic at martial arts, taught basic self defense moves to the girls and then they all practiced then moves.
Let me know if you have any questions.
    Thanks - Kimberly Nowdesha

  2. 4th Ward: Parent/Daughter Beach Activity March 19, 2014
We had a great parent/daughter activity. The girls were to invite one of their parents to join them. Two of the girls were siblings so both their parents came, but they had to choose which parent was their date. We had a beach theme since we are so tired of this long cold winter. We had all the an hour planning meeting with all four leaders (this involved all the girls between 8-11), made assignments and was done. I typed up what we had decided to do. The evening of the activity we came an hour early, set up, and put on the activity. It was great.
Two weeks prior to the activity we had the girls make invitations and give them to their parent. We printed the important information, let them cut out and decorate the invites. We had a photo booth, chocolate fountain with angel food cake, and fruits. Pina colada's to drink. We played twister, beach volleyball, ultimate musical chairs, and the limbo. We had music playing. All went without a hitch. I have the backdrop if you want to borrow it. I made a CD of all the pictures and gave a copy to each family. Susan Fredrickson

  3. Thanksgiving Cookie Decorating
We have an activity where you make turkeys, hats, and other thanksgiving things out of cookies and candies. The cost is about $30. The girls enjoy this and are able to make one cookie of each kind, and take them home to share. They learn how to use a pastry bag and be creative. I have pictures and a supply list.
